How To Travel Light Packing Tips

Traveling light is a skill that improves with practice. It’s easy to get carried away when packing for a trip and try to bring everything under the sun, just in case. Probably the first rule of packing light is not to bring anything just in case.

If you are sure you can’t live without it bring it. Other wise just leave it at home. One of the first steps to packing light is planning. Find out the weather and what activities you will be doing at your destination.

Then choose a color scheme for your wardrobe, so that every item is an essential piece and they can be mixed and matched. You can always wash some items and wear them again. You can also wear your bulkier items to save space in your suitcase.

If you get to your destination and you did forget something you can always purchase it there. The same thing goes for toiletries, pack small mini essential items, or purchase them on your trip.

Sure you can use the hotel shampoo, but some of us like a particular brand. So if you want to pack your own, purchase small seal-able plastic bottles and put your shampoo and conditioner in there. Or purchase the mini bottles of products at home. Only take the essential stuff that you know you are going to use and can’t live without.

Taking the minimalist approach to packing may seem like depriving your self an the beginning. But as you freely move through the airport and from hotel to hotel unencumbered by your luggage you will start to realize the advantages. Plus who wants to mill around a baggage claim after a long flight. I would much rather head straight home.

Travelling light also relieves stress and lets you focus on the most important part of your trip, which should be having fun, learning about new people or cultures, and enjoying the company of your traveling companions.
